A Kaduna widow identified as Mama Mary was allegedly k1lled by bandits after her family reportedly failed to meet the ₦10 million ransom demanded for her release.
Security analyst and former governorship aide, Reuben Buhari, disclosed the incident in a Facebook post, saying the widow was kidnapped 13 days after speaking publicly about the plight of displaced residents in her community, Kateri.
According to Buhari, Mama Mary was originally from Ariko village but relocated to Kateri because of worsening insecurity in her hometown.
He said she spoke during a protest on June 15 about the suffering of refugees and displaced residents in Kateri.
Thirteen days later, she reportedly travelled towards Ariko and was allegedly kidnapped alongside three other people.
Buhari said the kidnappers demanded ₦10 million for her release, but her family could only raise ₦2 million.
He alleged that on August 15, Mama Mary was chained by the neck and left until she choked to death.
Her body was reportedly abandoned by the kidnappers, while she was survived by four children.
Buhari appealed for prayers for the deceased’s children and used the incident to highlight the devastating impact of insecurity on vulnerable families in affected communities.
